The main reason a lawn sprinkler system needs to be repaired is usually due to failure of the owner to winterize the sprinkler system before the first freeze. This usually causes numerous issues that require repair in the Spring.
The consequences of NOT having the lawn sprinkler winterized in a timely manner can be disastrous. Pipes and important components can crack when frozen water expands. One of the most important as well as expensive components to your lawn sprinkler that you don’t want to freeze is the PVB (also called Backflow Preventor) which protects your drinking water from being contaminated.
It is recommended that the lawn sprinkler system be winterized In October or at the latest the 1st week in November as is proven this year in NJ, the first freeze can happen earlier than expected.
The Professionals at Elite Lawn Sprinklers, Pools & Spas begin winterizing as Early as mid- September, this keeps costs to homeowner down and maintains efficiency. The days in NJ during the winter are very short and therefore limits the window of time to winterize all the lawn sprinklers.
If your system may be winterized without inconveniencing your busy schedule, (by keeping detailed records Elite will be able to let you know) please do the following prior to making an appointment.
- Shut off Main Valve
- Turn Controller to Off position
Remember, by Winterizing your lawn sprinkler system before the first frost, you can save yourself a good amount of time and money in the Spring.
IF YOUR SYSTEM HAS FROZEN DURING THIS UNSEASONABLE POLAR VORTEX, A WINTERIZATION SERVICE MAY STILL BE PERFORMED WITH ALTERATION OF SYSTEM.
